Steak out: The Grill On The Square

Now the cold weather has well and truly set in, I’m on the hunt for the best Winter-Warmer restaurant in Yorkshire. The type of place that makes you feel warm and cosy, no matter how brutally cold the wind and rain are outside.

My judgements will be based on the following, highly important criteria:

  • Comfortable, stylish decor
  • Beautiful, golden lighting
  • Delicious, warming food

So when I was invited to the grand re-opening of The Grill On The Square, I was sure that one of my favourite restaurants in Leeds would not disappoint.

With a brand new conservatory and Autum/Winter menu, The Grill On The Square, otherwise known as Blackhouse pride themselves on serving the best steak in town and proceeded to demonstrate why. We were served samples of their prime cuts of meat, paired with their sommelier’s choice in wine for each course.

From Sirloin to Fillet to Chateaubriand, we were shown how the subtle fat marbling of each cut influenced the intense flavour of a steak.

The fact that Blackhouse’s waiters are given training on how to recommend a steak based on your personal preferences is also a rather unique and special touch.

With twinkly fairy lights that adorn the windows, as well as a magnificent live singer and pianist, the ambience in The Grill On The Square is really rather magical.

Does it have the best steak in Leeds? To be continued…. but it’s certainly a leading contender.
